  2. 1* Unacceptable Return Policy

    I work in the IT industry and occasionally need parts urgently and occasionally use VFM Computers for smaller components. The company don't always sell brands you might recognise but are always competitive on prices. I recently required a memory upgrade for a laptop over the christmas period and to avoid long dispatch times over the internet I used this local business instead. I later found that although the memory type I purchased was correct it was not compatible with my make and model of laptop. When I attempted to return the memory in its box without a mark on it with the receipt less than 3 days after purchasing it I was told categorically these goods could not be returned if they were in working order. I was told the receipt stated if the goods are incompatible and in working order there can be no refund. I have two problems with this. It is ridiculous, in my opinion, that if I had said the goods were faulty I would have been able to get a credit note and also not right that this unusual policy can be written on a receipt. Something, by definition, you get AFTER making a purchase. Fortunately for me this was only a £40 stick of memory but if it had been something like a laptop of computer system bought as a gift that turned out to be unwanted it would not be able to be returned. I am all for supporting local business especially in such a competitive market as computer hardware. But when there return policies are so poor compared to larger online retailers I know I will pay the extra 10% and buy a branded product online and know im safe in the knowledge I can return a product through remote sellers consumer protection agreements.
